Super salad ideas & tips
- Turn a side salad into a no-fuss summer dinner by adding some protein. When you add protein, salad becomes a filling main meal. Try adding grilled skinless chicken breast, soft boiled eggs, canned legumes or canned tuna in springwater.
- Try citrus juice or flavoured vinegar.
- Drizzle dressing just before serving to avoid a soggy salad.
- Use what's in season. Fill your salads with veggies that are at their peak like; asparagus, beans, cucumbers, peas, and tomatoes.
When packing salads for work lunches, make sure you store the salad and dressing in separate small containers so the leaves don’t go soggy by the time you’re ready to eat.
Using fruits in your savoury salads may not be the first thing you think of but often work really well in salads and add a perfect amount of sweet flavour without needing to use sweet store-bought dressing. Our recipe for grilled chicken and herb salad uses a sweet pomegranate dressing and fresh slices of peaches to create the perfect flavour balance. Or who can go past a basic tuna salad? Often an emergency work lunch this easy salad can be filled with whatever veggies you have in the fridge.
