Choosing a Goal
Setting a Goal
A question for you: where do you want to be in six months? A year? Two? In other words, what’s your goal? It’s important to figure that out because without a goal – even if it’s a short-term one – it's easy to lose track of what you're working towards. It’s a theory that applies to every part of your life, but particularly when it comes to weight loss.
We understand that your ultimate goal might not be about weight loss. Maybe you want to be able to keep up with your kids, climb a flight of stairs without getting winded, or just be more comfortable in your own skin. On the Beyond the Scale Program, we think your ultimate goal should be whatever makes you feel healthy and happy.
Start Small
That being said, we know that weight loss is still important to most people. How much weight you want to lose is totally up to you. If you already have a number in mind, the best way to get there is to set small goals. Maybe start with 5 lbs. Or just set a goal for the next month.
The only rule: it should be realistic and achievable. The fact is, you're not going to get a Beyonce booty after a week of working out. Results, including weight loss, take time. The SmartPoints® plan is designed to result in a safe rate of weight loss of 0.5 lb to 2 lbs per week (although don’t be surprised if you see more in the first few weeks).
You can change your weight-loss goal any time (as long as it's within your healthy weight range). To change your goal weight, click on the circle icon at the top right of My Day, then go to Settings, then Weight.
When you reach your goal, whether it’s a 5 lb goal or a long-term final goal, celebrate! You earned it! If you want to maintain your goal weight, you'll adjust your SmartPoints by going to Settings and switching to Maintain Weight. (You'll get additional SmartPoints to spend.) If your weight goes 2 lbs over your goal weight, we'll help you lose them by switching your technique from 'Maintaining weight' to 'Losing weight'.
Whatever your path, we'll always have your back.
