Managing Holiday Treats

Follow these four simple tricks to avoid overindulging
Published December 8, 2015

December may be a time for festive cheer, but it can also be a time for weight-loss disaster. During the holidays we are surrounded by temptation everywhere — cookie swaps, edible gifts, parties, elaborate family meals, overflowing candy bowls at work — plus the added stress (and expense) of shopping trips, family get-togethers, and holiday travel. Yikes! There's simply too much to do and not enough time. Is the waistband on your pants expanding just thinking about it all?

Relax, Weight Watchers has you covered, from the mall to the dinner table and everywhere in between.

Stay on track with these four helpful holiday hints.

  1. Plan ahead

Every day, think about where you’ll be going, what you’ll be doing, and what temptations might lurk there. By identifying potential pitfalls ahead of time and having tips, tools and strategies at hand (have you downloaded our new app? Get it for Android or iPhone today), there's less of a chance you'll be caught off guard.

  2. Track, track, and track

Our most successful members know that the more often you track what you eat, the greater your chance of staying on plan. (Don’t forget to track those bites, licks and tastes!)

  3. Consider healthy swaps

Who says you have to eat less during the holidays? Just eat smart! Use our new My Day tracker to slim down old family favorites. You can easily swap ingredients that will help you cut fat without sacrificing flavour or texture and save your adjusted dishes as recipes, meals or favourites.

  4. Set up and stick with your routine

No matter how motivated you are, this is a difficult time to make drastic changes to your routine. Keep it simple and take small steps. For instance, before you leave the house make sure you have a healthy snack with you so you won't be tempted while you're out and about. This one simple change can make a big difference!
