12 ways to make water taste delicious

Try these nine tips and three recipes to jazz up plain water.

Drinking water and staying hydrated is a key part of your health: your body needs it to do, well, everything! Plus, the health benefits are manifold.

We all know we should drink more of it, but if you don't like the taste of plain water, it can be easier said than done to get your six to eight glasses a day.

One way to make water more appealing is to add infusions that give it a sweet, spicy or refreshing edge using fresh fruits, veggies, and herbs.

Use the ideas below to satisfy your tastebuds and quench your thirst. (All recipes are for approximately one litre of water unless otherwise noted.)

Sweet sips


Berry blast

Muddle 60g sliced strawberries, 60g raspberries, and 60g blueberries. Add ice and either flat or sparkling water, then serve.

Tropical breeze

Add 60g of cubed mango, juice from half of a lime, and three torn basil leaves to a jug Add ice and flat water. Refrigerate for two hours.

Watermelon water

Mash 120g of cubed watermelon, juice from half of a lime, and three torn mint leaves. Add ice and either flat or sparkling water, then serve.

Make it spicy


Margarita-ish

In a jug, mash one peeled and seeded cucumber and one seeded and sliced jalapeño pepper. Add ice and flat water. Refrigerate for two hours.

Spicy tart

Muddle one lemon. Add water and ice, then stir in one teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Serve.

Peachy ginger

Muddle one peach. Add water and ice, then stir in eight thin slices of peeled ginger. Serve.

Spa sensations


Cucumber cool

In a jug, add one peeled, seeded and sliced cucumber, plus ten torn mint leaves and the juice of half of a lime. Add ice and flat water. Refrigerate for two hours.

Burr blues

Muddle 60g blueberries, then add them to a jug with the juice of half a lime and three torn basil leaves. Add ice and either flat or sparkling water. Serve.

(Honey)dew it up right

Add 360g of cubed honeydew melon and 120g of halved grapes to a jug. Add ice and flat water. Refrigerate for two hours.
