Who we are

The trusted authority in evidence-based Weight Health and community support—for 60 years strong.

The weight-loss community that started it all

Joining WeightWatchers® means you become part of a powerful, passionate community. The woman who started it all was our founder—and original female entrepreneur—Jean Nidetch, who wanted accountability on her own weight-loss journey.

Our purpose

We inspire lasting weight loss through behaviour change, nutrition science, and real connections—while never giving up the food we love.

Our vision

Be the global leader in Weight Health*—a worldwide community connected by healthy habits. Our approach recognises obesity as a chronic condition, works to reduce stigma, and improves accessibility and standards of care—because everybody deserves to be healthy.

*Weight Health is the degree to which an individual’s weight affects their metabolic health and well-being. Weight Health is impacted by genetic, biological, hormonal, environmental, and behavioural factors unique to each individual. Weight-healthy living aims to lower excess body fat which can positively impact chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease with the ultimate goal of improving health, well-being, and quality of life.

Our approach

Life is complicated—weight loss shouldn’t be. For six decades, we’ve redefined how nutritious eating can be simple, sustainable, and even joyful. Because the foundation of a great life is good health.

The #1 doctor-recommended weight loss programme†

Our 12-person science team of psychologists, clinical researchers, behaviour-change experts, and registered dietitians, alongside our Science Advisory Board, are at the forefront of the latest weight-loss research so members don’t have to be.

†Based on a 2020 IQVIA survey of 14,000 doctors who recommend weight-loss programmes to patients.
