Our super easy dough makes great funnel cakes, with a spice boost from vanilla extract and cinnamon. A quick turn in the air fryer browns the outside while keeping the inside wonderfully chewy. Dust with icing sugar for a pretty finishing touch.

Ingredients

White self-raising flour

1 cup(s), (150g)

99% fat-free, plain or natural yoghurt, unsweetened

1 cup(s), (240g)

Vanilla bean extract

1 tsp

Ground cinnamon

½ tsp

Icing sugar

2 tsp, (optional)

Oil spray

3 x 3 second spray(s)

Instructions

  1. Place flour, yoghurt, vanilla and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Stir until just combined. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 2 minutes or until dough is no longer sticky.
  2. Place a large piece of baking paper on bench top and sprinkle with a little flour. Cut dough into 4 equal pieces. Break one piece of dough into 6 smaller pieces. Roll each piece on floured baking paper into a long, thin rope, about 20cm long. Loosely pile all 6 dough ropes onto each other to form a funnel cake shape. Repeat with remaining dough pieces to make 4 funnel cakes.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 190°C. Lightly spray air fryer basket with oil. Place 2 funnel cakes in basket and lightly spray with oil. Air-fry for about 5 minutes or until lightly browned and cooked through. Transfer to a plate. Repeat process to air-fry remaining 2 funnel cakes.
  4. Dust funnel cakes with icing sugar and serve warm.

Notes

TIP: If you don’t have an air fryer, bake the funnel cakes in a 190°C oven for 5 to 8 minutes.
