What is a GLP-1 medication?
GLP-1 medications act like the body’s natural GLP-1 (which stands for glucagon-like peptide) by activating receptors in the pancreas, which then helps to regulate insulin and control blood sugar. They also activate receptors in the brain to curb appetite and in the gut to slow stomach emptying. Here is our medically-reviewed article about GLP-1 medications and their usage.
I’m already taking a prescribed weight loss medication. Do I have to now have my prescription filled through the WeightWatchers Clinic?
While you are not required to obtain your GLP-1 prescription from the WeightWatchers Clinic, doing so grants you access to additional support tools for your weight health journey. These include, but are not limited to, one-on-one check-ins with clinicians, a tailored nutrition program, and ongoing support from a dedicated Care Team, which includes dietitians and fitness trainers.
Interested in transferring your prescription to the WW Clinic? Once enrolled in WeightWatchers, open the app and navigate to the Clinic tab to learn more and find instructions on how to switch your prescription.
If I am taking a GLP-1 for Diabetes, can I get my prescription through the WW Clinic?
No, the WW Clinic's medication prescriptions and support tools are exclusively for those using GLP-1s indicated for weight loss management. However, WeightWatchers members have access to the WeightWatchers Diabetes Program—a dedicated track designed for individuals living with diabetes, available directly in the WeightWatchers app.
People living with diabetes need a program that considers their condition, like our Diabetes Program. It encourages members to weigh, measure, and track foods that may have the greatest impact on blood sugar levels. It also includes a list of ZeroPoint® foods aligned with guidelines from the American Diabetes Association.
