Looking for a light side dish that will satisfy your salty cravings while offering your family something a little different from the usual? These jicama fries—seasoned with smoked paprika, garlic powder, and a hint of cayenne—are just the ticket. Cooked in the air fryer, the fries get crispy on the edges and retain that classic crisp juiciness jicama is known for on the inside. The slight sweetness of the root vegetable pairs beautifully with the robust, savory spices.

Ingredients

Jicama

1½ pound(s), peeled

Cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Kosher salt

¾ tsp

Garlic powder

¾ tsp

Smoked paprika

¾ tsp

Cayenne pepper

¼ tsp

Instructions

  1. Cut jicama into ½-inch-thick slices. Cut slices into thin strips, ⅓- to ½-inch thick. In a large bowl, coat jicama with nonstick spray. Sprinkle jicama with salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper; toss well to coat.
  2. Preheat an air fryer, if necessary, to 375°F. Lightly coat air fryer basket with nonstick spray. Arrange jicama in basket. Air-fry at 375°F until browned and crisp on the edges, 22 to 25 minutes, pausing to shake basket every 7 or 8 minutes.
  3. Serving size: about ¾ cup
