Thomas’ weight loss story

After losing more than a third of his body weight, a whole lot of things have changed for 30-year-old Thomas, but he says one of the biggest shifts is his relationship with food. “That’s changed dramatically,” he says. “Now I view food as nutrition and see meals as a chance to heal and do something good for my body. I genuinely look forward to a healthy plate of food.”

Thomas’ why

“I joined WeightWatchers on the 1st of January because I was so sick and tired of feeling uncomfortable and lethargic all the time. I decided to give WeightWatchers® a go in the hope that I could lose some weight and become a healthier version of me.

Little did I know at the time that this would be one of the best decisions I had ever made! After failing at countless fad diets, WW was the only program that successfully transformed my relationship with food and enabled me to change my lifestyle for the better. I’d tried so many eating plans in the past and while I’d lose a bit of weight, I could never keep it off. The diets were so restrictive, which meant they were impossible to stick to.

Pizza is still on the menu

Here’s a fun fact: I’ve eaten pizza about once a week throughout my entire weight-loss journey, and still do. That’s what I love about WW. You don’t have to give up any of the foods you love and enjoy eating. My relationship with food has changed dramatically. Now I view food as nutrition and see meals as a chance to heal and do something good for my body. I genuinely look forward to a plate of healthy food.

Life is more active and social

As I started to lose weight, I started to find it easier to move around and I discovered I actually really enjoy being active. Before, I’d break into a sweat just sitting at my desk, but now I’m always looking for fun new physical challenges to try, things like kayaking and bike riding. I find it really helpful to also make movement a habit. I take the stairs instead of the lift, park further away from the mall, so I have a little extra bit to walk. Movement is medicine.

Losing weight has had an immeasurable impact on my life – for the better! I’ve replaced feeling lethargic and uncomfortable to feeling energised and relaxed. I’ve ditched the short-term crash diets and have adopted a lifestyle focused around healthy, sustainable habits. I feel more like myself and I’m so grateful. Food plays such an important role in keeping you well, healthy and happy. Our body is such a miraculous gift; it’s our home, and we need to take care of it and give it the respect it deserves.

I have so much more confidence. As someone who never wanted to go out and socialise, I’m amazed at how much I love meeting and talking to new people now. For all the weight I’ve lost, I’ve gained so many positive things in its place.

"Developing positive habits will put you on the path to lasting change. And never underestimate yourself. You have the power within you to transform!"

Time to take control of your life

Everyone can make a change, weight loss or otherwise. I hope this inspires you to make that change in your life. The hardest part is taking that first step; after that you build momentum and it gets easier until it just becomes a way of life. One day you wake up and realise this is you, renewed.

Take control of your life, and most importantly, be kind to yourself and others and do what makes you happy. Shine bright like you were born to. Spread your wings and give yourself permission to love. Love yourself, love your life, love your home, love your body, love others. We’re all in this together.

I truly believe that we have the power to transform and experience magic in our lives. I’m grateful that my story has reached you and I hope to inspire you to flourish and live well.
