5 unique ways to enjoy being outside

Celebrate the best of the UK and spend some time in the great outdoors.

There are 15 incredible national parks just waiting to be explored across the UK. Take a trip to one of the most popular, such as the Lake District, North Yorkshire Moors or the New Forest, or find the one closest to you and head off on a day out. While you’re there, why not try one of these top countryside activities…

Go stargazing
The lack of light pollution and unobstructed sky views make national parks perfect for a spot of star-gazing. Take a UK sky chart with you and see how many constellations you can see. And, if you’re up north and really lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Take a camera
Want to get creative? Plan a walking route around the park’s best vistas and landscapes, and try your hand at photographing the nature around you.

Try a trail run
If you’re an experienced runner or jogger looking to challenge yourself, find a national park running trail near you. The uneven terrain will work your muscles and make a nice change to your regular running routine, and a 30 minute run could earn you around 3 FitPoints®*.

Go wild camping
In some national parks, you can ‘wild camp’ – that’s pitching a tent on welcoming farms or common land rather than in an official campsite – as long as you leave no trace of your visit. It’s a great way to go off-grid for a break, and you can bring along healthy snacks and games to keep you occupied.

Hit the water
Plenty of national parks have coastlines, rivers, and lakes. Take advantage of the natural water holes and earn around 3 FitPoints* in just 30 minutes wild swimming, canoeing or paddle-boarding. Just make sure you follow all safety rules and park guidelines.

*FitPoints calculated based on a 10st person exercising at moderate intensity.
